Academy Award nominations were announced yesterday, and among the notable snubs was was Bradley Cooper's omission from the best director category for A Star Is Born. Cooper had been nominated for the best director award at the Golden Globes and the Critics Choice Awards—all the major awards with a best director category besides the Oscars.

Cooper and A Star Is Born did get other Oscar nods: He was nominated for Best Actor while his co-star Lady Gaga was nominated for Best Actress for the film. The film also got nominations for Best Picture and Best Song. Still, Cooper's director snub came up in Gaga's interview with the Los Angeles Times following the announcement. Asked directly whether she was upset Cooper didn't get a best director Oscar nomination, Gaga had a very diplomatic response.

'Well, you know, you never know what’s going to happen,' she started. 'But at the end of the day, he knows that he’s the best director in my eyes, and in all of our eyes as his cast. I know that he’s so happy that we’ve all been nominated and that the film was recognised and we all feel really, really beyond elated for the recognition.'

Gaga also shared how she felt about her own Oscar nominations and why winning her first Oscar would mean so much to her.

'There's really no award that is more esteemed than the Oscar in acting, and for music, it is also extremely special,' she said. 'Since I was a little girl, I always admired all of the artists that put in so much hard work and passion into filmmaking.

'Watching the award shows, I used to cry with them. It was always like I felt like I was them, even though I wasn't there. It was always a big deal with my family.'
