Bella and the Weeknd have been dating on and off since April 2015. They broke up briefly in November 2016 and shared this iconic moment shortly after, when they encountered each other on the runway at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.
During their breakup, The Weeknd dated Selena Gomez for just under a year. Bella quietly unfollowed Selena on Instagram during this time, but didn't wait long after their breakup to make her feelings clear to her ex-boyfriend. Bella and The Weeknd were seen kissing at Coachella (where they are understood to have first met, years prior) in April of last year. They've been together ever since!
The two celebrated Bella's 22nd birthday in October 2018 in similar luxurious fashion. During the day, they held hands leaving French pastry shop, Ladurée, made out in the street in SoHo, and wound up at a surprise dinner party in the evening. Here, the Weeknd led Bella into a venue where her mother Yolanda Hadid, sister Gigi Hadid, brother Anwar Hadid, Kendall Jenner, and more friends were waiting to surprise her.
So while there's no proof that Bella planned The Weeknd's recent birthday extravaganza, you can bet she probably wanted to pay her boyfriend back with a grandiose affair.
