In a brilliant and history-making moment for English football, our country's women's team - the Lionesses - won the SheBelieves cup for the first time, beating Japan's women's team 3-0, at the match in Tampa.

Despite some promising early game goals by Lucy Staniforth and Karen Carney, the Japan team did put up a good fight, sending on some more experienced players after half time to try and reduce the England lead, but ultimately, the Lionesses proved victorious.

Previously having beaten Brazil and drawing against the USA, who were at that point ranked number one in the 2019 tournament, the Lionesses went on to lead a fantastic and definitive win over Japan's team, placing them at the tip of the cup table.

Last year, the Lionesses were the runners up.

It is the first time that the England team have had a victory like this in the invitational tournament.

The England women's team have now racked up quite a number of impressive feats. In 2017, they scored a remarkable 6-0 victory over Russia, edging them ever closer to the World Cup 2019. And at that moment the became the first England team to make it into a top four ranking over two successive tournaments, in over half a century. Sorry boys, the Lionesses are a true football force.
