Meghan has been a busy woman today. The Duchess of Sussex just arrived with Prince Harry at Westminster Abbey for the Commonwealth Day service, while earlier today she visited the London embassy, and wore Erdem for the occasion. One important accessory, however, was missing: her engagement ring.
Eagle-eyed fans on Twitter noticed that the Duchess of Sussex was only wearing her wedding band, a Welsh gold band from the jeweller Cleave and Company.
Her diamond engagement ring, which includes gems that belonged to the Princess Diana, was nowhere to be seen.
Meghan almost always wears her engagement ring. I mean, you would too if yours was this impressive:
The Duchess was also seen wearing it on Friday during her appearance at an International Women's Day panel, so where was it just three days later?
Before we (and the entire Internet) start speculating of any drama between the Royal couple, there's definitely a practical reason behind the ring's absence. Meghan is pregnant, right? And it's common for women to remove rings during pregnancy if their fingers swell.
Apparently the swelling can get bad wearing a ring is actually dangerous, explained Robin Elise Weiss, PhD — a doula, childbirth educator, and author — to VeryWell Family (via ELLE US). Rings may fit in the morning but are harder to remove later in the day.
Kate Middleton also took a break from wearing her engagement ring in the past. Last January, when she was pregnant with Prince Louis, she went to an appearance at a hospital without her sapphire engagement ring.
We hope that iconic piece of jewellery makes its return to the spotlight ASAP.
