A whole newwwwww...trailer for Disney's upcoming live-action remake of Aladdin has arrived. And while the first official teaser left much of the Twitterverse divided over Will Smith's blue (cerulean?) Genie, the new trailer proves there's much more to Genie than meets the eye.

The new trailer offers plenty to chew over while waiting for the full movie to hit theatres this May. In it, Aladdin heads to the Cave of Wonders on a mission to steal the Genie's lamp for Jafar (who is hot) but ends up meeting Genie. The two develop a sweet bromance. Smith's Fresh Prince-esque Genie lands a few quips and acts as the perfect wingman to help Aladdin meet Jasmine; there's a lot of dancing—like a lot, and we get the first taste of Jasmine and Aladdin singing a snippet of the classic "A Whole New World."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Smith said he took note of the cultural impact Robin Williams, who played the Genie in the 1992 original movie, had and wanted to "infuse the character with a timeless version of myself" just as Williams did.

"And then that opened up for me . . . hip-hop, it opened up fashion," he said. "Because the Genie is timeless, you get to really say and do anything so I started to feel confident that I could deliver something that was an homage to Robin Williams but was musically different and just the flavour of the character would be different enough and unique enough that it would be in a different lane versus trying to compete."

The Guy Ritchie-directed film will star Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Will Smith as Genie, and Marwan Kenzari as Hot Jafar. Aladdin, which hits theatres on May 24, joins Disney's 2019 live-action film lineup, including Dumbo and The Lion King.
