The Duchess of Cambridge and Game of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke have more in common that one would think, as both women are helping to support global campaign, Nursing Now.

The initiative has been running for three years in collaboration with the International Council of Nurses and the World Health Organisation in order to raise the profile of nurses across the globe.

Back in February 2018, the Duchess of Cambridge visited the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and St Thomas’s Hospital in London to help launch the Nursing Now 2020 campaign.

Now, Clarke has been chosen as the first ambassador for the programme.

In a statement, the actress said: 'I am privileged to be asked to join Nursing Now’s global movement by becoming their ambassador and help them empower nurses to lead, to learn and to strengthen the profession around the world.'

'I know from personal experiences, and my work with the Royal College of Nursing (RCN), that nurses are the backbone of healthcare services. However, they are undervalued and with policy change could achieve so much more in prevention and healing.'

It's not the first time the 32-year-old has crossed paths with British royalty, as Clarke was invited to a reception at Kensington Palace back in February 2018.

But when she met the Duke of Cambridge, Clarke was too starstruck to remember any of the royal protocol advised.

During an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the actress revealed that she was told to address Prince William as 'Your Royal Highness' and that she must not turn her back to him.

But nerves got the better of her, as she explained: 'For whatever reason, maybe because I was so scared, I couldn’t manage to get out "Your Royal Highness"… So, it was kind of like "ra… ra…" - it was pretty much all I managed.'

The royal couple are self-confessed fans of Game of Thrones, as they admitted to watching box sets with a takeaway on Saturday nights during a surprise Radio 1 interview in April 2017.

The Duke of Cambridge described the series as, 'well worth watching'.
