• 'Tensions' between Prince William and Prince Harry reportedly deepened when Harry first announced he planned to marry Meghan Markle less than a year after they started dating, insiders told People in a new report.
  • William reportedly warned his brother that things were moving too quickly, which left Harry 'angry and hurt,' according to People's royal correspondent Simon Perry.
  • A friend of the brothers shut down speculation that William and Kate were harsh to Harry and Meghan. The Cambridges even publicly celebrated the news of their engagement the day it was announced.

Prince William apparently had qualms about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's relationship at one point, People reports. Royal correspondent Simon Perry writes that 'tensions between the brothers deepened back when Harry first told his family he wanted to marry Meghan after less than a year of dating.'

This might've struck a chord with William, who dated Kate Middleton for four years after meeting her in college before getting married in 2011. The Duke of Cambridge reportedly warned his brother that 'things were moving too quickly, leaving Harry angry and hurt,' Perry writes. However, it's unlikely that William and Kate were being cold to the Sussexes; that doesn't 'sound like them,' a friend of the royal brothers told People.

William's concerns seemed to be gone by the time Harry and Meghan announced their engagement, however. He and Kate said in a statement that day, 'We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.'

The Duke of Cambridge later responded with his classic dad humour. 'For me, personally, I hope it means he stays out of my fridge and will stop him scrounging my food, which he's done for the last few years,' William quipped during a public appearance.

Prince Harry and Prince William are nonetheless carving separate paths as they continue to grow into their royal roles and expand their families. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are in the process of establishing their own royal household separate from William and Kate's. They also just moved out of Kensington Palace, where they were neighbours with the Cambridges, and into Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.

But Harry and William are still brothers through and through. Another source told People, 'There is never any doubt that they will be there for each other 100 percent and support each other when it matters.' The Duke of Cambridge reportedly even helped his younger sibling get the royal staff he deserves as he establishes a household of his own.

Who knows, maybe William and Harry will even team up again in the near future.
