Ellen DeGeneres has spoken about being sexually assaulted by her stepfather in a new interview.

In an episode of My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman, the Ellen Show host says her mother married 'a very bad man' who molested her when she was a teenager.

According to Entertainment Tonight, DeGeneres says her mother's husband used her mother, Betty DeGeneres', breast cancer disease to assault her.

'He told me when she was out of town that he'd felt a lump in her breast and needed to feel my breasts because he didn't want to upset her but he needed to feel mine,' DeGeneres says. '... He convinced me that he needs to feel my breasts and then he tries to do it again another time and then another time.'

It's not the first time DeGeneres has spoken about this. She first mentioned it in a 2005 interview with Allure where she said her now deceased stepfather made her lie down so he could feel her breasts.

She also told Letterman her stepfather tried to break down her bedroom door and she ended up escaping out of the window because she knew 'it was going to go more to something'.

DeGeneres said she was 'angry' at herself at the time because she was 'too weak to stand up' to him. She explained that she's gone into further detail with this story now 'because I want other girls to not ever let someone do that'.

DeGeneres said she didn't tell her mother until years later. When she did, she allegedly didn't believe her and stayed with her husband. She eventually left him after he kept changing his story, ET reports.

DeGeneres said she wishes her mother had believed her but is now 'apologetic' over the past.

'When I see people speaking out, especially now, it angers me when victims aren't believed,' she continued. 'Because we just don't make stuff up. And I like men, but there are so many men that get away with so much.'
