If you're looking for a new summer home, then how about a royal retreat? Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip’s former Malta residence is now for sale.

The couple spent a significant period of time at Villa Guardamangia during their first few years of marriage in the 1940s and '50s. Unfortunately, the 'palazzo-style mansion' has fallen into disrepair in recent years, but is now on the market for £5.3 million. It boasts six bedrooms, three bathrooms, a grand 'Sala mobile' living room and 'various guest/servant quarters'.

Despite the large price tag, the property has faded into dilapidation, with overgrown gardens and weathered walls.

Her Majesty is very much still fond of the residence, saying during a 2015 visit that 'visiting Malta is always very special for me. I remember happy days here with Prince Philip when we were first married.'

Villa Guardamangia is located on the outskirts of Malta's capital, Valletta, and is the only place outside the UK that the Queen has ever called home.

She lived there from 1949 to 1951 with Prince Philip, after he was relocated to Malta as a naval officer, according to the BBC.

The property has sparked rows in recent years, as some believed it should be acquired by the government and should be restored, while others insisted that private owners should decide its fate.
