Spare a thought for the guest at the Royal Windsor Cup polo event this weekend, whose long scarf became a victim to an unexpected gust of wind and landed promptly in the Queen's face.

The Queen was walking past the guests to present an award to one of the players when a long black scarf worn by royal box attendee, the Japanese musician Yoshiki, blew into Her Majesty's way.

Unperturbed, the Queen - dressed in a fuchsia pink coat dress and hat - didn't flinch and carried on heading to where she needed to be.

However, as well as the open-mouthed guest who rapidly try to control his long, flailing scarf, another person who looked mildly alarmed was Gillian Anderson.

The Sex Education actress was a VIP guest at the event and can be seen recoiling backwards with a shocked expression as she witnesses the whole scarf-in-royal-face situation.

The Queen, an avid lover of horses, was later seen very much enjoying herself as she watched the event, presented trophies and chatted with guests and organisers. It follows a busy week for the monarch who has also been spotted at Royal Ascot on multiple dates alongside family members including the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Eugenie and Zara and Mike Tindall.

The event on Sunday, organised by Japanese company Outsourcing Inc, took place at the Guards Polo Club in the Berkshire town. In addition to Anderson's attendance, actress Felicity Jones was also there, wearing Emilia Wickstead, with her husband Charles Guard.
