The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are visiting Leicester to pay tribute to those who were tragically killed in the helicopter crash at Leicester City Football Club’s King Power Stadium.

Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, the club's chairman, died alongside four others when the aircraft came down outside the stadium after a match on 27 October.

The royal couple placed a wreath at the tribute site before meeting with players and members of the club’s management team, volunteers and club supporters who helped to move the thousands of flowers and tributes to the dedicated site. During their visit to the stadium itself, the duke and duchess met with representatives from local charities who were supported by Leicester City's chairman.

Kate was dressed in a monochrome Catherine Walker coat dress paired with black suede heels and a matching bag, believed to be the Midi Mayfair style from Aspinal of London.

It's a poignant visit for Prince William, who is the President of the Football Association. A statement from Kensington Palace confirmed that the duke personally knew Mr Srivaddhanaprabha, adding that he and the duchess 'wanted to visit the city to recognise the warmth and compassion that the people of Leicester and fans of Leicester City Football Club have shown in reaction to the accident'.

When the engagement in Leicester was announced earlier in in the month, Leicester City Vice Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said it was an 'honour' to welcome William and Kate to the club.

'For Their Royal Highnesses to visit the city to pay their respects personally is a remarkable gesture of compassion to the families of those who lost their lives, to the staff and players of the Club and to the people of the city whose lives were touched by my father,' he said in a statement.

Later on Wednesday, the royals will visit the University of Leicester to meet with students and to find out about the educational programmes that the football club has helped to support.
