There's a lot of stuff President Donald Trump doesn't seem to understand: equality, the news, foreign policy, common decency, and hair brushing to name but a few.

And now we can add 'popular culture' and 'fun' to the list of things lacking in Trump's pretty dry fountain of knowledge.

During his trip to France, the former US reality star – who earlier today told Macron's wife Brigitte she was physically in 'great shape' – celebrated Bastille Day by sitting alongside President Emmanuel Macron to watch the French army perform a medley of French electro duo Daft Punk down the Champs-Élysées.

Forget 'Clair de Lune' or le Marseillaise, these guys just nailed how to put a modern twist on tradition, and treated the presidents to a two-hour spectacle, which included 241 horses, 63 airplanes and 29 helicopter traveling up and down the Place de la Concorde, according to CNN.

In other words, it was one hell of a shindig to mark the turning point in the French Revolution.

During the celebration, Macron looked like he was having a whale of a time, proudly looking upon his fellow French men and women as they bashed out the medley and moved in perfect formation in front of the crowds.

Trump meanwhile looked as if he was sitting through one of those boring leavers' day speeches you'd be forced to sit through as a kid, as his whispy fringe flapped in the mid-summer breeze.

'If Trump falls in the Oval Office and no one is around to hear it, does he make a sound?' Trump no doubt questioned himself during the performance as he absentmindedly ignored the party in front of him.

At the end of the musical segment – which involved baton twirling and drumming, a stoic-looking Trump clapped at the army and gave a half-arsed whistle (yeah, because that makes you look cool, mate) as Macron smiled and nodded at his countrymen.

To be fair, Trump is probably still trying to mull over how to pronounce 'bonjour' so you can't blame him for looking a bit perplexed.

No, wait, you can.
