As names for menus go, the new one at The Savoy’s Beaufort Bar couldn’t be more apt. After all, here the Music comes from the live piano, the Magic comes from the sheer glamour of the place – all art-deco black and gold. And the Drama? That’s the drinks, obvs. Because these elevate cocktail-making into near-theatre, and pack a spectacular punch. The three-part menu, inspired by the Beaufort’s past as the hotel’s cabaret stage, splits the cocktails into champagne (Music), white spirits (Magic), and dark spirits (Drama). Not averse to a bit of dramz (or indeed a few drams), we loved The Composer, a divine mix offsetting vodka and champagne with rhubarb cordial, dusted artistically with raspberry; and The Dramatist, an oh-so clever meeting of Jack Daniel’s, vanilla syrup and cold-brewed coffee that feels like a grown-up espresso martini. Gorgeous, glamorous, downright lavish – drinks like this truly do deserve a standing ovation. And, hell yes: an encore.
