The Royal Wedding pushed the buttons of even the most hardened cynic. We at ELLE busily covering the event thought it was phenomenal from start to finish and collectively shrieked for joy when we finally laid eyes on the dress.
But as a soon-to-be-married I had a weird mix of emotions thrown in too. Nerves surged through me as I saw the crowds and wondered how on earth she was coping with the pressure. Was Kate sedated? I found myself taking deep breaths akin to those during labour when she got out the car at the Abbey. And then put an awful lot of thought in to how this simple dress would stand the test of time so much better than some of those unique gowns on my shortlist. After all Grace Kelly was first to wear a Kate gown in 1956 and its still a global favourite.
Suzie Lockwood, PA to ELLEs publisher and getting married on May 21
But did Sarah Burtons McQueen creation make you doubt your own wedding dress choice?
Hannah Swerling, ELLEs junior commissioning editor whose wedding is on June 12
Yes, I did have a brief moment of wondering if I should have gone for something more traditional says Alice Wignall, ELLEs Features Director with a W-Day of June 25
I definitely dont doubt my choice after seeing her adds Suzie, if anything it has confirmed my decision to go for something a bit more unusual than what people will expect.
Perhaps typical of an ELLE team to be so confident of its choices, but wasn't there any Eureka moments?
Seeing her convinced me that I am right to wear a veil because I loved hers said Alice, and it also settled a debate over whether to add any coloured flowers to my all-white bouquet. My florist said that white sometimes doesnt show up very well, but I reckon if Kate can get away with all-white on 2 billion TV screens then I can get away with it too.
It made me feel very pleased that I have a long (ish) train! added Hannah.
But Suzie speaks for a nation of brides-to-be when she admits, I did have a slight fear of being outshone by my sister (also a bridesmaid) on the day! I know she wont be wearing a white, sexy, figure-hugging McQueen number but Im still wondering if its not too late to change all the girls dresses to voluminous brown smocks... Do it.
