The Geode Wedding Cake Trend Is Rather Delightful
Because rocks aren't just for your ring finger
The latest trend in wedding cakes isn't demure and sweet. It's actually pretty cutting edge—and we mean literally. Brides are moving away from traditional white pastries in favor of geode cakes, which depict stunning rocks lined with crystals.
We were first introduced to this innovative design when luxury wedding cake design studio Intricate Icings' amethyst-inspired cake went viral earlier this year. While the artful cake looks like it's just for show, we were most surprised to hear that it's actually completely edible. "The geode is made from rock candy that I then crafted with modeling chocolate, hand painting, and gold leaf," explains baker Rachael Teufel on Facebook.
Now, we've been seeing these beautiful cakes pop up everywhere, from Instagram to Pinterest. Check out some of our favorite designs below, but prepare yourself: You're going to want to get married all over again just have one of these beauties.
