After shooting two of the hottest TV shows to drop in 2022, with both premieres for each series taking place on the exact same night (plus a slightly dramatic fire evacuation from BAFTA) just 24 hours earlier, you might expect Pistol and Everything I Know About Love star Emma Appleton to look a little tired. But, of course, you'd be wrong.
The up-and-coming British actor arrives at ELLE UK's suite at The Corinthia hotel in London for her episode of '5 In 5' looking ultra glowy and fresher than ever. 'My aim is to basically put hardly any make-up on ever because I like my skin to look like skin and when you wear so much for work, you just don't want it on your face all the time.'
With her expertly undone ponytail and cool girl fringe tweaked to perfection (by the hands of A-list hairstylist George Northwood no less) the 30-year-old is ready to talk us through her go-to beauty essentials. A lineup that reads like a who's who of hyped beauty brands. Think Augustinus Bader ('I kind of didn't want to believe the hype, but it's true'), Rose Inc ('I got this concealer recently and I'm really enjoying it'), and Glossier ('I had a make-up artist use Futuredew on me and it was like a lightbulb moment. I was like, "Oh my god, my skin has never been so glowy"').
Lust-worthy beauty products aside, Appleton knows her stuff when it comes to protecting her skin. 'Honestly I only started taking SPF seriously in the past year or so and it is a serious thing. It has made a massive difference. I put it on top of my moisturiser - I don't like putting too much on my face but SPF has to be done.'
