George and Amal Clooney generously allowed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to join their ritzy summer in Lake Como, Italy—an offer the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took up this past weekend, Us Weekly is reporting. The two stayed from Thursday to Sunday at the Clooneys’ villa after flying in on the 16th. “The Clooneys had personally invited Meghan and Harry to their home at the beginning of the summer with an open invitation,” a source told the outlet, noting that “Harry and George have a special bond and friendship.”

The couple "enjoyed the privacy and security the Clooneys had for them there,” the source said of their weekend. And George reportedly hosted a gala for them there on Saturday.

Prior to their Italy trip, Meghan and Harry had been “spending most of their summer in their Oxfordshire home,” the source said. Meghan is reported to have flown into Toronto on Sunday to begin her solo trip to Canada and the U.S. She and Harry will be back in the UK next Wednesday to attend a Hamilton gala performance.

George and Amal were royal wedding guests, and Amal is said to have become one of Meghan’s confidants. “Meghan and Amal have known each other for a while [and share] many interests,” a source told People at the end of May. “Amal has been helping Meghan settle into London life. It was a very natural friendship from day one.”
