It's well known that Amal Clooney is a high-achieving, hugely successful human rights barrister.

Ever since she was catapulted from inner legal circles to the mainstream world of pop culture, as she began dating - and subsequently marrying and having children with - George Clooney, examples of all the incredible things she's achieved, career wise, were brought to the forefront.

For instance, cast your minds back to the 2015 Golden Globes, when hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler even used her wealth of expertise and experience in their opening monologue.

'Amal is a human rights lawyer who worked on the Enron case, was an advisor to Kofi Annan regarding Syria and was selected for a three-person UN commission investigating rules of war violations in the Gaza Strip, so tonight her husband is getting a Lifetime Achievement Award,' which was met with laughter and applause by George while Amal looked slightly bashful.

So, we've compiled a handy guide - beginning with the most recent - of some of the most impactful legal work Amal Clooney has been part of.

2019: Amal Clooney Calls Out Donald Trump's Attitude To Journalists

As part of her role as a Special Envoy on Media Freedom to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, Amal delivers a speech where she criticises President Donald Trump's 'vilification' of the media.

'The country of James Madison [former US president and Founding Father of the country] has a leader today who vilifies the media, making honest journalists all over the world more vulnerable to abuse,' she said in the speech.

As of yet, Trump has not responded to Amal's remarks.

The barrister was speaking alongside Jeremy Hunt at the Global Conference for Media Freedom in London. She also criticised 'world leaders' for failing to do more about the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi last year.

Clooney's law firm, Doughty Street Chambers, announces she will become co-counsel to award-winning journalist Maria Ressa, and lead the client's international legal team.

Ressa runs the news site Rappler, based in the Philippines, which is now facing charges under the leadership of the country's president Rodrigo Duterte. She has accused the government of using the charges against her to silence the media.

'Maria Ressa is a courageous journalist who is being persecuted for reporting the news and standing up to human rights abuses,' Clooney said in a statement. 'We will pursue all available legal remedies to vindicate her rights and defend press freedom and the rule of law in the Philippines.'

The two appear in front of the United Nations to argue their cause and the UN council adopts a resolution to investigate Isis and collect evidence of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity.

In May, George Clooney said his wife's involvement with this particular case means there are now 'proper security issues' that affect their family.

'My wife is taking the first case against Isis to court, so we have plenty of issues - real, proper security issues - that we have to deal with on a fairly daily basis,' he told The Hollywood Reporter. 'We don't really want our kids to be targets so we have to pay attention to that.'
