Update: A Second Cats Trailer Has Been Released

A few months after we caught a glimpse of Taylor Swift, Jason Derulo, Idris Elba and Dame Judi Dench as all-singing, all-dancing cat-human hybrids in the first trailer for the new Cats movie and, now, we've been blessed with a second.

Universal released the second one and a half minute version on Tuesday, showing Dench's Old Deuteronomy leading the other CGI cats in an adventure talent-show format with Francesca Hayward's Victoria jeté-ing across the screen, Elba's Macavity elevated above all the other felines and Swift's Bombalurina sprinkling a can of 'cat nip' everywhere.

Just like the first trailer, a large part of the reaction focused on the fact that people were surprised to see well-known actors with digitally-induced fur and whiskers, but human hands and faces.

Of course, many people are also excited for the huge breadth of talent featured in this film.

Original Story: The Cats Trailer Has Left People Confused

A couple of days after releasing a behind-the-scenes video showing Taylor Swift dancing with Idris Elba in rehearsals, the first trailer for Cats has been released.

The movie adaptation of the iconic musical will arrive in cinemas in December and features a super impressive cast line up including Swift, Elba, Jennifer Hudson, James Corden, Dame Judi Dench, Rebel Wilson and more.

So while it was expected that the first glimpse of an all-star cast set along to the backdrop of Hudson's beautiful voice singing 'Memory' would make people incredibly excited for the end of the year, the first peak of what a film adaptation of a bunch of singing cats will actually look like has left people a little confused.

While it may have been presumed that, like the Lion King remake, it would be actors voicing the parts of felines, that is not the case.

The new movie trailer shows the recognisable faces of Hudson, Swift and Dame Judi but with whiskers, tails and a whole lot of digitally-induced fur. Essentially, they are the cats. But they're not complete cats; they are sort of a hybrid cat-people.

Let us explain. They are cats that look like famous people that walk on two legs, appear next to really large furniture and buildings (to give a cat's perspective obvs), sing with their human mouths and hold things with their human hands.

Naturally, this has left people reacting to the trailer with a whole lot of feelings...

Before people go into a complete state of shock, some pointed out if you have ever seen Andrew Lloyd-Weber's West End show, where, yes, the actors are dressed as cats, this trailer shouldn't come as a complete surprise.

Meanwhile, others were still very excited for the movie and its impressive cast:

Overall, we're still processing how Idris Elba still looks hot as a cat, Taylor Swift's boujee 'catnip' can and the incredible dancing that's already evident. But one thing's for sure - we need to see this film in full.
