Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are a rare breed of A-List couple.

Not only have they stayed together for almost a decade throughout their thirties - a rare feat in Hollywood - they have also managed to maintain absolute privacy and control over the public knowledge surrounding their relationship.

The only time they have ever been photographed on a red carpet together was when they both starred in the 2012 hit film The Place Beyond The Pines. Not even when Gosling was nominated for an Oscar and won a Golden Globe for his role in La La Land in 2017 did the couple choose to make a public appearance together.

However, there has been the odd anecdote from both Mendes and Gosling about their relationship, two daughters and adopted dog over the years, which are cute enough to make even the iciest of hearts thaw.

Starting with the most recent sweet comment, here's a look back at the times the actors have lovingly spoken about their relationship, each other and their family...

Mendes proved she’s Gosling’s biggest fan when sharing a photo of herself wearing a T-shirt showing him dressed up as Barbie’s Ken.

The Hitch star’s latest look was a tribute to Gosling’s heartthrob character in the forthcoming Barbie movie, where he stars alongside Margot Robbie.

It came printed with Gosling's full name in bold bright pink letters and showed him shirtless with an unbuttoned denim jacket.

April 17, 2023: Eva Mendes insists she won't be making a red carpet appearance with Ryan Gosling

Eva Mendes has insisted that we won’t be seeing her and Ryan Gosling together on the red carpet.

Prior to the release of Gosling’s viral 2023 film Barbie, the mother-of-two shared old footage of the couple from the film they were alleged to have met on, 2011’s The Place Beyond the Pines.

She captioned the clips: ‘Magic is Real. We did not meet on set. The magic started way before, but here’s a little magic captured on camera.’

The post led one fan to comment: ‘Eva, I want to be honest w u, but I hope Barbie will get through the Awards Season just to see you w Ryan. I know I’m selfish and probably a dreamer, but I will never stop to dream about it!! [sic].’

Mendes courteously reiterated that this was nothing more than a dream when responding: ‘You’re the best! What a cool comment; thank you. But we don’t do those things together... Like these photos I’ve been posting, I’m only comfortable posting because it’s already out there.’

She clarified: ‘Oh wait -for those who may catch me in a “lie” -we only were on the red carpet together once when promoting this film.’ (see above).

November 21, 2022: Eva Mendes seemingly confirms she and Ryan Gosling are married

Fans have speculated about long-time couple Mendes and Gosling's relationship status over the years, and on Friday, November 18, Mendes seemingly confirmed that she and the Barbie star are married.

During an appearance on Channel Nine's Today to talk about her charity work in Australia, while Gosling films his new movie The Fall Guy in Sydney, she gushed about the warm reception the pair have received.

It was at this point she referred to Gosling as her 'husband'.

She told hosts Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdo: 'Everyone is so welcoming here and my husband Ryan is here and we are having the best time.'

Her comment came just days after she showed off her inner wrist tattoo on Instagram, which reads 'de Gosling'.

She then appeared on Australia’s Kyle and Jackie O Show, which saw co-host Brittany Hockley ask: 'There’s a rumour that you guys might have secretly tied the knot. Is that true?'

Mendes replied: 'But who says we weren’t already? I like to keep it all mysterious. I’m a very mysterious woman.'

Referring to her tattoo, she added: 'I do have a tattoo. It’s just a press on…no, it’s not a press on. But I got it years ago. I posted a picture and I’ve gotten a lot of funny questions.'

January 4, 2022: Ryan Gosling Opens Up About How He And Eva Mendes Coped With Parenting During Lockdown

Gosling shared his take on life with his partner-of-over-10-years and their daughters during the pandemic.

Speaking of the struggles that come with raising two kids during lockdown, Gosling told GQ: 'Our kids were at a difficult age not to be able to see other kids and interact with people, even though Eva and I did our best.'

Gosling also spoke about how he feels now that the pair's two daughters, Esmeralda and Amanda are growing up.

'Time, in general, is something I think about a lot now. My kids are growing up so fast I need to keep an eye on the clock in a way I never used to,' he said.

After highlighting that, like most parents, he and his wife spend a lot of time trying to keep their kids entertained, he mentioned the couple's daughters also watched one of Mendes' first ever movies during lockdown.

He added: 'My Brother The Pig was a big hit. I highly recommend it, by the way. Eva’s amazing in it.'

Gosling also spoke of homeschooling during the pandemic, revealing that the couple sought help from his mum.

'She was the perfect person to ask for help when we needed it,' he said sweetly.

February 16, 2021: Eva Mendes Speaks About The Difficulties Of Parenting During A Pandemic

Mendes shared her thoughts on the challenges she faces while parenting her daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, during the global pandemic.

On February 16, 2021, the mother-of-two voiced her the feelings on the current situation in a caption to a selfie posted on Instagram.

'These days my kids are getting my full on attention,' she wrote. 'It's challenging for sure but they need me now more than ever. The challenge of juggling multiple things whilst abiding by various lockdown rules is a sentiment parents the world over can most likely relate to. [sic]'

Mendes also took the time to point out her 'full on mum mode [sic]' attire in the selfie, which consists of a dressing gown which the star admits is an upgrade 'from my man’s [Ryan Gosling's] sweats' [sic].

The star also included a list of website that provide support for parents in lockdown, adding: 'If you find yourself in a similar situation, here's a list of parenting pages that are getting me through so thought I'd share...[sic].'

January 24, 2021: Eva Mendes Discusses Social Media Break After Her Daughter's Comment

Eva Mendes returned to Instagram over the weekend, after taking a short break following a comment made by her daughter.

Before the weekend, Mendes' last post was on December 29, 2021. In the latest addition to the grid, the Hitch star reposted an image from parenting account Latinx Parenting, which spoke of the importance of your child 'calling you out' explaining that it shows 'empowerment'.

Mendes agreed with the sentiment saying the reason she hadn't posted in a few weeks was because her 'little one' - who we assume to be her and Ryan Gosling's youngest daughter Amada - told her mother she was on her phone too much.

'I could tell she was taking it personally,' Mendes wrote. 'And she’s a kid, of course she’d take it personally. They take things personally unless we go out of our way to make it clear to them it’s not personal. So we had good talk, I apologised and I promised her I’d be mindful. I realised that just because I’m always home with them doesn’t mean I’m always present.'

October 17, 2020: Eva Mendes discusses parenting with Ryan Gosling

The actress gave a rare insight into life at home with her two daughters and husband Ryan Gosling.

In an interview with The Sydney Morning Herald, the she discussed her quarantine experience with the Drive star and their two daughters, Esmeralda and Amada.

‘Sometimes it feels like we are running some kind of bed-and-breakfast with very drunk and aggressive guests,’ she joked. ‘We really do feel like we are working in a hotel, and the guests are angry and bossy and demand food brought to them.

‘And by the time they go to sleep, we're left to just clean up and talk about how they've treated us that day!’

The actress said that while life at home with two young children can be challenging, she cherishes her family time.

‘When we feel like we're just “in it”, like all parents do during these times,’ she said, ‘we remind ourselves that these are the good times because we're all together and we're all safe right now'.

During the interview, the mother-of-two also recalled the now-famous words her husband uttered at the 2017 Golden Globe awards when he paid tribute to his wife while accepting his ‘Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy’ gong for La La Land.

‘While I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second, and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer,’ the actor said from the stage. ‘So sweetheart, thank you. And to my daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, I love you. And I’d like to dedicate this to the memory of her brother, Juan Carlos Mendez.’

The publication reported the actresses voice cracked ‘with emotion’ when reminded of Gosling’s words and noted: ‘I was home feeding our six-month-old baby and couldn’t even be there that night.

‘I was in the other room when my sister started screaming for me to come in and she was crying, so we rewound and watched and it was such a beautiful, surreal moment, especially for my family to hear Ryan say my brother’s name.’

The Hitch star also discussed her ambitions as a mother and actor.

‘I feel like, as far as my ambition, it didn't go away, it just shifted onto the children,’ she admitted.

‘I applaud and look up to those women who can do it all, but I'm not one of them and, thankfully, I have a choice not to work and I realise how fortunate I am that it's even a choice. I've been so happy to be able to incubate with my babies, but now they are four and six, I'm starting to feel like my ambition is coming back.’

October 4, 2020: Eva Mendes Has The Best Response To Someone Telling Her To 'Get Out More'

Mendes is not one to back down in the face of responding to someone on social media, something she proved again over the weekend.

The actress shared a throwback photo of herself modelling and running on a beach from 15 years ago, which she acknowledged in the post's caption, writing: 'Haven't seen a beach this year. Haven't been on a beach this year.'

Given the Coronavirus-quarantine world we found ourselves living in, in 2020, it's wasn't entirely surprising. However, one follower responded saying: 'You need to tell Ryan to get you out more'.

To which, Mendes politely responded: 'No thank you, I'm good. Rather be home with my man than anywhere else in the world.'

Fair enough, really.

April 27, 2020: Eva Mendes Gushes Over Ryan Gosling's Acting Credentials

Per previous examples below, Mendes has become accustom to interacting with fans on social media recently.

In April, the mother-of-two was unable to resist voicing her opinions on a fan account dedicated to Mendes and Gosling.

Under a post which encouraged fans to select their three favourites of Gosling's movies, Mendes aired her thoughts while praising her partner's acting credentials.

'What a tough question,' Mendes wrote. 'He was so incredibly heartbreaking in Bladerunner. Such an impossible role to play and he did it so beautifully! And his portrayal of Armstrong [in First Man] was so subtle and powerful and emotional. I got lost in his performance in that film.

'And then him as March in The Nice Guys is a classic comedy performance that is only seen every once in a blue moon.'

Evidently full of praise for her significant other, Mendes admitted she had to end the comment before she broke word count limits.

'I mean, I can keep going but I don’t think this comment section has enough room!' she joked.

When a fan then responded to Mendes' rankings asking the Hitch star to tell Gosling fans are looking forward to seeing his post-lockdown work, the actor said she'd be sure to pass the message on.

April 18, 2020: Eva Mens Explains Why She And Ryan Gosling Rarely Discuss Each Other

In a post, Mendes captioned a picture of her daughter's artwork from quarantine welcoming comments and interactions, writing: 'Reading comments and happy to connect so let me know how you're feeling.'

The day before, Mendes admitted she was unsure of what to post at the moment, amid the Covid-19 pandemic, so shared a picture of one of her favourite pieces of art.

When a follower asked why she never posts pictures of her 'immediate family', Mendes took the time to respond first addressing the privacy reasons surrounding sharing photos of her daughters Esmerelda and Amada ('Since my children are still so little and don't understand what posting their image really means, I don't have their consent') before moving on to her partner Gosling.

March 6, 2020: Eva Mendes Explains What She'll Share About Ryan Gosling and her daughters

Mendes had been engaging with her fans a lot more using social media (much to her fans' delight!).

Earlier in the week, a fan commented on the actor and designer's picture of her modelling her own fashion range to compliment her and thank for her for interacting with her fans. She signed off her message with a little plea: 'Wouldn't mind an appearance by Ryan on this page.'

Mendes responded to the comment gracefully as ever, thanking her and explaining how much joy she gets from 'connecting to other women' on the platform. She also said how she tries to be honest so confirmed that the picture was a campaign shot so had been retouched.

The Hitch actor, who had recently turned 46, then went on to explain what she will share on social media about her partner, Gosling, and the children they share together: Esmerelda and Amada.

'As far as Ryan, I'll only post flash backs of things that are already "out there" (like pics from movies we did or stuff like that),' she clarified.

'My man and kids are private. That's important to me so thanks for getting that.'

February 13, 2020: Eva Mendes Reveals Little Known Talent Of Ryan Gosling's

After sharing a video of herself eating a macaroon on Instagram, Mendes responded to a fan who asked whether she and partner Gosling ever cook together.

The Hitch actor clarified that while she does not particularly pride herself on being a talented chef, her other half definitely is.

'Ryan is an amazing chef AND baker,' she wrote. 'For reals. Incredible. No joke. I'm not sure that what I do is cooking. It's more like steaming veggies and juicing and making rice.

'He really cooks. I survive.'

We're so intrigued. We wonder if his speciality dish is a lasange or maybe a casserole. And baking? Oh, what we'd give to eat a slice of cake crafted by the hands of Gosling.

'It's so fun and beautiful and maddening,' Mendes said of life at home. 'It's so hard, of course, but it's that that feeling of ending your day and putting them to bed and Ryan and I look at each other like, "We did it, we came out relatively unscathed".'

Mendes was then asked about the possibility of working with Gosling again on future film projects. Describing the Drive actor as a 'creative genius', she said she'd love to and joked that she 'would audition for him any day' before clarifying that, hopefully, she would get to skip the audition part.

'I love it', she said of working with her long-time partner.

Mendes, who has recently launched her sixth clothing collection, also agreed with host Mario Lopez that no matter how busy the couple is with careers and children, scheduling in date nights - such as the one the couple were spotted on in Los Angeles recently - is important.

'It take a lot of prep,' she joked. 'You've got to have it all lined up. But luckily we have a lot of family support.'

In a cover interview with Women's Health, the designer told the magazine that having children had previously been 'the furthest thing from my mind' until she met her partner.

When asked why that priority shifted, she explained candidly: 'Ryan Gosling happened. I mean falling in love with him. Then it made sense for me to have... not kids, but his kids. It was very specific to him.'

January 2017: Ryan Gosling pays tribute to Eva Mendes at the Golden Globes

Accepting the prestigious award for his lead role in La La Land, Gosling praised Mendes for her support and sacrifices in order to enable his career, without mentioning the Hitch actress by name. He also paid tribute to his partner's late brother, Juan Carlos Mendes, who had recently passed away.

'I would like to try and thank one person properly and say that while I was singing and dancing and playing piano and having one of the best experiences I've ever had on a film, my lady was raising our daughter, pregnant with our second and trying to help her brother fight his battle with cancer.

'If she hadn't taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today. So, sweetheart, thank you. To my daughters, Amada and Esmeralda, I love you.'
