Social media users have called out the commission of Friends star Matthew Perry from the BAFTA’s In Memoriam segment on Sunday.

The segment, which was played against the soundtrack of Cyndi Lauper’s 'Time After Time', featured Tina Turner, Jane Birkin and Michael Gambon among many others.

Fans were quick to criticise BAFTA’s glaring omission, taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, to call out the ‘poor decision.’

BAFTA responded by confirming that Perry will be honoured at its TV award ceremony, which will be held in May. ‘Matthew Perry will be remembered in this year’s TV Awards ceremony,’ it said in a statement.

The much-loved star was found dead in a hot tub on Saturday, October 28 at his Los Angeles home. It was later revealed that the actor died from ‘the acute effects of ketamine.’

Perry was included in the In Memoriam segment during the 2023 Emmy Awards last month, where his image was shown as Charlie Puth performed his 2015 hit, 'See You Again,' which then transitioned into the Friends theme song, 'I'll Be There for You.'
