Dylan Farrow, the adoptive daughter of Mia Farrow and Woody Allen who accused the director of sexually abusing her as a child, has responded to Scarlett Johansson's public defence and support of Allen.
In a message on Twitter, Dylan wrote: 'Because if we've learned anything from the past two years it's that you definitely should believe male predators who "maintain their innocence" without question. Scarlett has a long way to go in understanding the issue she claims to champion.'
Johansson told The Hollywood Reporter that she loves Allen, and would work with him anytime because she believes he's innocent.
Allen has consistently denied Dylan's accusations of sexual abuse and was never found guilty of child sex abuse.
'I believe him, and I would work with him anytime,' Johansson said. 'I see Woody whenever I can, and I have had a lot of conversations with him about it. I have been very direct with him, and he's very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.'
Ruminating on the current cultural shift that gives weight to women's allegations against powerful men which are finally being believed, she added: 'Things needed to be stirred up, and so people have a lot of passion and a lot of strong feelings and are angry, and rightfully so. It's an intense time.'
Many of the actress' peers have distanced themselves from the director after the MeToo movement led to renewed scrutiny over Dylan's accusations.
The star previously worked with Allen on Match Point, Scoop, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Amazon returned the rights to his latest film A Rainy Day in New York, with cast member Timothee Chalamet donating his salary to the Time's Up campaign, among other charities.
Johansson took part in the Women's March in 2018 to advocate the importance of Planned Parenthood, and has been a vocal supporter of the Time's Up initiative.
