And that's a wrap for the Oscars 2019. After months of deliberation, Green Book just won Best Picture at tonight's Academy awards. Directed by Peter Farelly, it stars Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali, who just won his second award (for best supporting actor).

Set in the early 1960s, the film is based on a real-life road trip through the American deep south and triumphed in a field considered the most open in years. It beat off competition from Alfonso Cuarón’s 70-set drama Roma, period black comedy The Favourite, and Marvel superhero movie Black Panther.

The night has been full of surprises. If perhaps lots of people expected Glenn Close to take Best Actress, Olivia Colman won and proceeded to make everyone cry with her heartfelt (and extremely humble) speech. To say Colman was flabbergasted would be an understatement: 'This is not going to happen again', she told Hollywood's elite.
