When using the term 'booked and busy', few come to mind more than Lashana Lynch, who, in the last few years alone, has starred in a Marvel film, Matilda the Musical and as the titular Igozie in The Woman King.

Her success though, Lynch tells ELLE in a game of Ask Me Anything, comes from not defining herself as 'lucky.' 'Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you are lucky, because you’re not,' she says. 'You work hard, there’s alignment, the universe is doing all sorts of things to get you where you need to be...do you want to leave in the world!'

Another key to her success is remaining grounded, she tells her friend, actress Naomie Harris, who surprised Lynch with a question mid-shoot. 'I come from a grounded background. If I were to fly away into the sky at some point my family would snatch me back in,' she states. 'I appreciate quiet. I'm a firm believer in protecting your energy. Energetically and vibrationally if you can remain where you are... and really sitting with others opinions, your choices, your actions, but are you going to allow it to have a life within your life?'

Glittering CV aside, Lynch is most proud of the stunt work she's undertaken so far in her career. 'I have a lot of them under my belt', she says. 'I feel proud of what my body has been able to accomplish and the years I’ve been doing it.'

But if acting - or indeed stunt work - hadn't worked out for the star, she explains that she'd still be in the realm of creativity. 'I’d write or paint,' she adds. 'Or something in nature.'

How very lucky we - and the film industry - are then that Lynch became the cinematic star that she is today.
